The emmys is a time for TV stars to let go, relax and forget all the complications of daily life, but it’s not the right thing to do BJ Novak And Mindy Kaling were there to do. The two have a complicated history together, and they decided to make it the target of their jokes on stage when they presented the award for outstanding writing for a limited series.
Mindy began her presentation by saying, “We just want to say to all the nominees, congratulations you lazy sons of bitches. How do you get away with this? We did network sitcoms – 22 episodes a year.”
Continuing the speech, Novak said: “This show that would take your whole life. No time for other projects.”
Mindy summed it up, saying: “No time for social life. You had no choice but to develop insanely complicated relationships with your co-stars.”
The audience rolled with laughter as they all knew what was being referenced. Novak and Kaling met when they both starred together in 2005’s The Office Relationship they’ve been on the show the whole time, but now the two are just incredibly close friends who go to red carpets together but claim they’re not dating.
Kaling likes to label their relationship as follows:
“A romantically charged camaraderie with noisy arguments.”
Their relationship is further complicated by the rumors in the media that Novak is the father of Kaling’s two children. Kaling has not revealed who her children’s father is and has no plans to do so, but she and her children often spend time with Novak.
Kaling commented on the matter in conversation with Marie Claire and described it in the following words:
“He is godfather to both of my children – and they have such a great relationship – and so far [the rumors haven’t] has affected my happiness at all, not my kids or BJ.
