‘It’s so poor!’ Jamie Redknapp slams Chelsea star after Everton draw | Football

Jamie Redknapp struck Chelsea Goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga for his role in evertonthe late equalizer in Saturday’s 2-2 draw at Stamford Bridge.

The Blues looked set to book a fourth straight win Kai Havertz restored the lead with a penalty in the 76th minute.

Chelsea had gone in front thanks Joao Felix‘s first goal on home soil since joining from Atletico Madrid, only for Abdoulaye Doucoure to level the game with a close-range header for Sean Dyche’s set piece specialist with 20 minutes remaining.

Everton finally owed the valuable point in the fight for relegation to substitute Ellis Simms’ first goal for the club in the final minute.

The 22-year-old showed impressive power to save Kalidou Koulibaly but his shot didn’t seem to have the power to find the back of the net, only for it to squirm under the Chelsea keeper.

“If you go through Sean Dyche’s teams, they’ve always had someone up there who can hold the ball up and get people in play, that’s just always something he’s had,” Redknapp told Sky Sports, analyzing the goal.

“It’s a nice little touch from Doucoure and then the power he shows just to shake off the defender is incredible, it’s that good.

“The goalie, it’s so poor. He doesn’t make nearly enough saves for me. He just corners but the keeper should do better.

Simms, meanwhile, spent the first half of the season on loan at Sunderland before being recalled in January due to an injury crisis.

“It’s about patience, I just had to wait for my chance,” said the Everton hero afterwards.

“We have top players so I won’t go straight into the team, I have to work hard and take my chance when I get it.

“It’s a massive belief, we work hard in training, stay united and stick together when the going gets tough. We fell behind today but fought back to equalize.’

Punch thrown following Bowling Green-Memphis WNIT game

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio (AP) — A confrontation between two players in the post-game handshake line after Bowling Green’s win over Memphis Thursday night at the women’s NIT was referred to campus police.

As the teams headed to Center Court after Bowling Green’s 73-60 win in the round of 16, Memphis’ Jamirah Shutes stopped to speak with Falcons player Elissa Brett. After a brief conversation, Shute’s board appears to deliver a slap in the face. Brett fell to the scorer’s table and the sidelines.

There was no immediate word as to what caused the confrontation or if any player was seriously injured.

Bowling Green said in a statement that the incident is in the hands of campus police.

“The incident, which occurred after today’s WNIT home game, was turned over to the BGSU Police Department,” the school said. “Bowling Green State University Athletics is not commenting on an active police investigation. Our priority is the health, safety and support of our student-athletes.”

Bowling Green coach Robyn Frölich did not directly comment on the incident after the game, saying only that they “would figure out all these things” that happened in the handshake line.

The Memphis Sports Information Bureau did not immediately respond to an email from The Associated Press requesting comment.

The Memphis Commercial Appeal newspaper reported that Shutes, who leads the Tigers in scoring, elbowed in the face with 24 seconds left in the first quarter and played just eight minutes in the first half. She returned to start the second half.

Shutes, a fifth-year player who finished her last game with the Tigers with 13 points, was a second-team All-AAC selection this season.

Brett scored 15 points in the win.

Everything you need to know before the playoffs begin

The Winnipeg Jets fell like a stone in the standings. The good news for Winnipeg fans is that despite their poor record over the past month and a half, they still hold a playoff spot due to the lack of parody in the Western Conference. The Jets are likely to have either a second wildcard spot or, in an unlikely scenario, third place in the Central Division.

Here’s a look at where the Winnipeg Jets stand as they battle for the NHL playoffs

Forward

If anyone had any doubts prior to this season that Kyle Connor was a true top forward, he proved them wrong and then some. Not even the Winnipeg Jets projected Connor as a points-per-game player when he was drafted. But behind the game with talented linemates like Pierre Luc-Dubois, Connor was able to net the puck more than consistently.

The Winnipeg Jets don’t have a lot of depth in their forward group, but they make up for it with experience. Players like Blake Wheeler, Mark Scheifele, Nikolaj Ehlers and Adam Lowry have played alongside each other for more than half a decade. While not every one of them was a world stopper, the players, combined with the experience they brought to the table and the Jets’ second line, were some of the most productive of the season.

defender

The Winnipeg Jets forward and defensive lineup are polar opposites. The Jets’ six defenders each lead the team in defensive point percentages. Apart from Josh Morrissey, none of them are at the top of the offensive point stocks. That means the Jets almost exclusively let their forwards attack, their D-Man defend.

That strategy had its downsides this season. On paper, the Winnipeg Jets should have one of the best blue lines in the entire league, but that hasn’t panned out in the last month. The Jets are struggling to limit opponents’ chances to score, which has led to a goal deficit. The Jets rely far too heavily on thugs like Logan Stanley and Kyle Copobianco in their lineup, both of whom rank last on their teams in total defense.

goalkeeper

Connor Hellebuyck is officially back. The Winnipeg Jets goaltender plays some of the best hockey he’s played in his entire career. Hellebuyck was a workhorse goaltender for the Jets, starting in 55 of the team’s 72 games. Hellebuyck has a savings percentage of .918 and an GAA of just over two and a half. With just 31 wins, that means the Jets need to play D better in front of their keeper.

The Jets have a perfectly viable backup in David Rittich who, if you can count on him, has performed well for Winnipeg. He’s probably not the name fans would trust to turn to if Hellebuyck got injured or struggled in the playoffs, but he’s reliable in short sprints.

Is Sidney Crosby the most underrated player in the NHL?

Avatar

Hockey analyst Cam Charron joined hosts Matt Larkin and Tyler Yaremchuk on Thursday’s Daily Faceoff Live. When asked if Aleksander Barkov was a suitable recipient of the NHLPA’s Most Underrated Player award, Charron offered an interesting alternative. Given his lack of recognition in recent seasons, future Hall of Fame center Sidney Crosby was Charron’s choice.

Matt Larkin: Cam, I wanted to turn around and ask you about the NHLPA player survey that was released earlier this week. Aleksander Barkov has been named the NHL’s most underrated player. This is a guy who captained last year’s President’s Trophy winners, he’s got a Selke Trophy. What do you think of the idea of Barkov being “underrated”?

Cam Charron: I think it’s a terrible thing that we just turn the best player on a Sun Belt team into the most underrated. I don’t think we should think about it that way at all. I don’t think any casual fan could tell you that Aleksander Barkov is a top 10 and top 5 center in this league and I think it really goes far beyond the definition of what underrated means.

Like you said, this guy got all these votes left and right. In general, I’ve found that the underrated players linger in the Sun Belt, then end up on the Canucks, and then don’t do very well. I think the most underrated player in the NHL right now is Sidney Crosby.

He’s probably dragging the penguins into the playoffs right now. He really was the only consistent force for the Penguins in 5-on-5 hockey all season. He’s only maintained that 55% goals on the ice. Malkin isn’t having a great 5-on-5 season and the depth was atrocious, but Pittsburgh are still right there with a big win over Colorado last night. This has just been driven entirely by Crosby. 10th in the standings for the past three seasons, he’s barely sniffed any ballots for the season-ending awards. Obviously the Hart is going to McDavid this year, there’s no question about that, but I think Crosby should show up third, fourth, or fifth on a lot of ballots, and I don’t know if he’s making a lot of headlines now.

I just think at the end of Crosby’s career we’re going to look back and say, ‘Oh, he only won two Hart trophies.’ That doesn’t seem like enough for Sidney Crosby, who is one of the all-time greats.

Tyler Yaremchuk: Another point on Barkov, he finished third in the most complete player poll, which would contradict him being underrated too.
